Lukáš Jabůrek

Lukáš Jabůrek (b. 1983, Czech Republic) is a prominent contemporary Czech glass artist whose work is defined by a rigorous engagement with color, light, and precision cutting. Trained within the Czech glassmaking tradition in Nový Bor, he developed a deep material sensitivity rooted in workshop discipline, technical mastery, and an understanding of glass as a demanding and autonomous artistic medium.

At the core of Jabůrek’s practice lies a sustained investigation into the optical and perceptual qualities of glass. Through meticulously executed cuts and layered chromatic structures, his works activate light as an integral component of form, allowing colour and geometry to unfold internally rather than merely across the surface. The result is a body of work in which clarity and complexity coexist, and where visual depth emerges through restraint, balance, and technical control.

Jabůrek approaches glass not as a neutral material but as a living medium—one that responds to precision, time, and intention. His practice reflects a belief that glass possesses its own internal logic, demanding respect for its physical limits while offering exceptional expressive potential when mastered. Rather than seeking narrative or figurative reference, his works focus on perception itself: how light is refracted, how colour is transformed by incision, and how space can be articulated within a solid form.

His professional trajectory includes extensive experience within leading European glass contexts and a period of artistic leadership at Moser glassworks between 2013 and 2018, a role that further refined his understanding of material excellence and historical continuity. His works have been recognised through institutional awards and are held in significant public collections, including the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. More recently, Lukáš Jabůrek Studio received the Minister of Culture Award within the Jablonec International Glass and Jewellery Triennial framework, underscoring continued institutional recognition.

Today, Lukáš Jabůrek’s practice occupies a distinctive position within contemporary glass art—situated between tradition and innovation, and characterised by an uncompromising commitment to material intelligence, optical exploration, and formal discipline.
