The first UNESCO World Heritage is inscribed in the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Mada'in Saleh or Al-Hijr is an ancient archaeological local in the Kingdom.

The Al-Hijr site is unique in many ways. It preserves ancient history through the architecture and art of a long-lost culture known as the Nabataean civilization. The intricate ornamental designs carved into the sandstone structures at the site speak volumes about the skill of these ancient Arabs.

The confluence of various architectural styles, the Egyptian, Assyrian, Hellenistic, and others, are evident in the architecture of Al-Hijr. The ancient local also gives us an insight into the people's way of life in the 10th century AD and, later, their agricultural practices and involvement in the international caravan trade.
