Elis Monsport is a contemporary Czech glass artist whose practice explores the expressive and conceptual potential of mould-blown glass. Her work is distinguished by its geological sensibility, where controlled distortion, surface tension, and material memory become central aesthetic drivers. Rooted in the strong Central European glass tradition, Monsport’s objects bridge sculptural poetics with rigorous craftsmanship, positioning her among a new generation of experimental glass practitioners.
In Tekto (2022), Elis Monsport advances a materially intelligent dialogue between geology and glass, articulating a sculptural language where tectonic memory becomes form. Blown into a plaster mould, the work resists the conventional smoothness associated with glassmaking; instead, it embraces a deliberately disturbed surface topology that evokes eroded limestone strata and the slow violence of geological time.
The vessel’s six-faceted mass appears simultaneously organic and constructed. Its wrinkled, cascading skin captures and fractures light, producing a quiet optical dynamism that shifts with the viewer’s position. Monsport here operates within a contemporary Central European glass tradition while pushing toward a more phenomenological reading of the medium - glass not as passive transparency, but as a site of compression, pressure, and release.
Conceptually, Tekto positions distortion as a form of higher order. The work proposes that beauty emerges not from perfection but from the record of forces acting upon matter. The artist’s poetic reflection—rooted in a journey through the Pyrenees—further situates the piece within a landscape of introspection, where personal topography and geological process converge.
Issued in a limited edition of ten, Tekto stands as a compelling example of Monsport’s evolving vocabulary: materially rigorous, visually restrained, and intellectually anchored in the poetics of formation and transformation.
