Maximilian Hagstotz is a German contemporary porcelain sculptor working with MEISSEN, representing a new generation within the manufactory’s long sculptural tradition. He began his artistic training at the age of 16 as a porcelain painter at MEISSEN, where his talent quickly distinguished him.
Hagstotz continued his education in sculptural design under the former head sculptor Jörg Danielczyk, joining his master class and developing a rigorous command of form, surface, and material. His sculptures are conceived as objects to be discovered gradually, revealing their meaning through movement around the form rather than immediate disclosure. He is particularly drawn to what is hidden or unconventional, allowing depth and beauty to unfold through careful observation.
Maximilian Hagstotz pushes the boundaries of porcelain art with the mesmerizing "Common Seadragons," a tribute to the wonders of the ocean. Following his bold 2021 "Red Lionfish," these new creations blend abstract waves with delicate seadragons, capturing their natural grace.
Adorned with Meissen's vibrant palette, the seadragons shimmer like rainbows, floating above the waves in breathtaking detail. Inspired by the endangered species native to Australia's seagrass meadows, this masterpiece continues Meissen's legacy of celebrating the ocean's beauty through exquisite craftsmanship.
